Home Away from Home

Ramesh Gupta Memorial Trust (RGMT) has partnered with Childhood Cancer International and Foundation S to implement the “Home Away from Home” project, aimed at building shelters for children with cancer and their caretakers who travel long distances to access treatment. Recognizing that families from remote areas face immense challenges when seeking cancer care in urban hospitals, this initiative provides safe, comfortable, and affordable accommodation so that no child has to forgo treatment due to lack of shelter.

Key Project Goals:

  • Providing safe shelter for children with cancer and their caretakers who travel from remote areas for treatment.

  • Ensuring equitable access to cancer treatment regardless of geographical or financial constraints.

  • Construction and operation of shelter near major cancer treatment hospital for children and their caretakers.
  • Provision of meals, basic amenities, and a nurturing environment for families staying at the shelter.
  • Psychosocial support programs including counseling and peer support groups for children and their families.
  • Community awareness campaigns to strengthen outreach and ensure families are aware of the shelter services available to them.

The Home Away from Home initiative embodies the belief that every child fighting cancer deserves not only the best medical care but also a safe and supportive place to call home during their treatment. By working together with Childhood Cancer International and Foundation S, RGMT is committed to ensuring that no family has to choose between staying close to their child and continuing life-saving treatment.
